The Nation Ford Wrestling team set a school record by qualifying four wrestlers to the SCHSL State Tournament. Caden Brandenburg led the charge by winning the Upper State title at 152 pounds. Mitchell Ladamus (126), Isaac Nieves (170), and Clayton Rygol (220) all placed fourth to qualify. The State Tournament will be held at the Anderson Civic Center on February 25 and 26.
Nation Ford High School will once again be the site for the Upper State Tournament. Wrestlers from all 20 5A Upper State schools will be competing to earn a trip to the SCHSL State Tournament. The tournament will be held on February 18 and 19, with wrestling beginning at 6 pm on the 18th and 10 am on the 19th.
After a weather cancellation of the region duals and individual tournament scheduled at Fort Mill, the Falcons travelled to Boiling Springs High School. The team came up short in both matches to Gaffney and Boiling Springs, ending any hope of making it to the post season. The Falcons will next be in action on February 18 and 19 at the Upper State individual tournament.
The Nation Ford Falcons wrestled tough, but fell short in their 60-18 loss to Clover. There were a few close matches that went Clover's way. Winning by pin for the Falcons were Danny Gilstorf, Mitchell Ladamus, and Caden Brandenburg. The Falcons will be in action this Friday and Saturday (1/28 & 1/29) for duals against Gaffney and Boiling Springs on Friday, and the Region Individual Tournament on Saturday.
A depleted lineup mainly due to covid had the wrestlign team only send out six wrestlers, forfeiting 8 matches. Caden Brandenburg had a technical fall at 152 pounds and Clayton Rygol had an exciting overtime win by fall at 220 pounds. The final score was 69-11 in favor of Fort Mill.
The Falcons will be in action again on Wednesday, January 26 at home against Clover. This will also be Senior Night.
Our matches scheduled for January 11 against Indian Land and January 13 against Clover have been cancelled. The Clover match will now take place on January 26 at Nation Ford. We will try to reschedule the Indian Land match.
Despite bringing only nine wrestlers, the Falcons had five wrestlers place and finished tied for tenth place in the always tough Bearcat Invitational at Rock Hill High School. Caden Brandenburg was our highest placer with a third place finish at 152 pounds. Jake Moore was our next highest placer with a fifth place finish at 106. Alan Minarro placed sixth and 220, Danny Gilstorf took seventh at 113, and Isaac Nieves rounded out the placers with an eighth place finish.
A depleted lineup put the wrestling team in a big hole in both matches as they lost to Chapin by a score of 46-24 and South Pointe 54-30. The Falcons are now 4-5 on the season.
The Falcons had three wrestlers place and finished 12th out of 27 teams at The EB Memorial Clash at the Creek this past weekend. Caden Brandenburg led the way with a second place finish at 160 pounds. Isaac Nieves made a strong run through the wrestlebacks to finish third at 170, and Clayton Rygol finished fourth at 220. The Falcons will take the mat next week in a home meet against Chapin and South Pointe.
Despite missing three starters and giving up several forfeits, the Falcons were able to go 2-1 in a quad meet at Blythewood HS. The team had victories over Spring Valley (38-24), Dutch Fork (37-36), and lost to Blythewood by a score of 57-21. The Falcons are now 4-3 on the season.
Both Varsity and JV will be in action this weekend at Mallard Creek HS for the EB Memorial Clash at the Creek.
The wrestling team had four wrestlers place this weekend at The Kingsley Classic hosted by Fort Mill HS. Clayton Rygol led the way with a second place finish at 220 pounds. Dalton Curtsinger (132), Caden Brandenburg (160), and Isaac Nieves (170) all placed third.
The Falcons will be back in action on Wednesday, December 15 in a tri meet at Blythewood HS.
The Falcons travelled to Buford HS on Tuesday to take on the host school and Lancaster. In the first match, the Falcons beat Buford 45-25. In the second match, the four forfeits given up were too much to overcome as we fell 39-34 to Lancaster.
Varsity and JV will both be in action this weekend, with JV at Olympic HS on Friday for the Trojan JV Scramble and Varsity at the Kingsley Classic Friday and Saturday at Fort Mill HS.
The Nation Ford wrestling team travelled to Eastside High School this past weekend for The Southern Slam, one of the toughest tournaments in South Carolina. Leading the way was senior Caden Brandenburg with a sixth place finish at 160 pounds. Also having strong performances were Isaac Nieves (170) and Clayton Rygol (220) who both came one win shy of placing.
The team will be in action again on December 7 at Buford HS for a tri meet with the host school and Lancaster.
The wrestling team opened up the season at home with a win over Andrew Jackson High School and a loss to Catawba Ridge. In the first match, the Falcons defeated Andrew Jackson 66-9 before falling to Catawba Ridge 46-24. The Falcons will travel to Eastside HS on December 3 and 4 for The Summer Slam.

Steven Johnson was named the Most Outstanding Male Winter Athlete for this school year. This is such a well-deserved award. We would like to thank Steven for his great leadership over the years, and wish him the best of luck next year as he starts college at Clemson University.
Three Falcon wrestlers were recently named to The Herald's All-Area Team. Steven Johnson was named to the First Team at 152 pounds. Caden Brandenburg was a Second Team selection at 145 pounds, and Clayton Rygol was Honorable Mention at 220 pounds. We are so proud of these three wrestlers!
Senior Steven Johnson has been selected to the North/South All-Star Match. This is a great honor, as the South Carolina High School Association picks the best senior wrestlers in South Carolina to take part in this event. He will be wrestling on March 13 against Ryan Dobbs of West Oak.
Steven Johnson finished a great career by placing 2nd in the State Tournament at 152 pounds. He won his quarterfinals match by a major decision over Vince Del Priore of Chapin by a score of 17-8. In the semifinals, he won a tough match against Rayshawn Springs of Fort Dorchester by a score of 8-5. He lost his finals match to the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament, David Hunsberger of Byrnes in the finals by technical fall, 22-7.
Nation Ford had three wrestlers place in the top three at the Upper State Tournament to earn a trip to the SCHSL State Wrestling Tournament. Senior Steven Johnson led the way with a 2nd place finish at 152 pounds. This will be his second trip to the State Tournament, placing 4th last year. Sophomore Clayton Rygol earned his first trip to the State Tournament by placing second at 220 pounds. Also making his first State Tournament will be Junior Caden Brandenburg, who placed 3rd at 145 pounds.
The SCHSL State Tournament will be held on March 6 at Dreher High School.
Caden Brandenburg (145) and Steven Johnson (152) both won by pins in the finals at the 5A Region 3 Tournament. Placing second for the Falcons were Isaac Nieves (160), Clayton Rygol (220) and Ryan deLeon (182). Ja'Derrick Foster (132) and Alan Minarro (HWT) placed third. The team now needs to wait on the SCHSL to decide whether top three or top two make it to the Upperstate Tournament.
The Falcons beat Boiling Springs, and then lost to eventual Region Champs Clover to finish third in the region at 2-2. After a previous win against Gaffney and two hard-fought losses to York and Fort Mill, the Falcons are now 5-4 overall. Next up is the 5A Region 3 Individual Tournament at Fort Mill HS.
The Falcons beat Westwood by a score of 60-24 and Catawba Ridge 38-33 to improve their record to 3-0 on the season. Going 2-0 on the day were Mitchell Ladamus (113), Caden Brandenburg (145), Steven Johnson (152), Isaac Nieves (160), Ryan deLeon (182), and Alan Minarro (HWT).

After finishing the dual tied at 39, the Falcons won on tie-breaker criteria over Blythewood. The Falcons will be back in action on January 12th in a quad meet agains Clover, Gaffney, and Boiling Springs. The meet will take place at Clover HS.
Steven Johnson capped off a solid season by placing fourth at 145 pounds in the SCHSL State Tournament. We are so proud of him and appreciate his leadership this year both on and off the mat!
With the rise in school districts requiring clear bags at many of their sporting events, the wrestling team is selling clear stadium bags. These bags also meet NFL standards.
