In a real barn burner the Junior Jackets outlasted their rival Nation Ford Falcons 7-6 in a real seesaw battle. There were any number of plays that could have ended the game in regulation but both teams refused to go away. Their record on the year now stands at 12-2 with two games remaining.
Starting pitcher Mikey Tepper battled through three innings as the Falcons took an early 3-1 lead after two. The Jackets would plate single runs in the second and third to come within one run. It would stay that way until a wild seventh inning.
In the visitor’s half of the seventh with one out Conner Manco walked, an error by the Falcon third baseman, and a single by Alan Stevens would load the bases. RBI singles by Dylan Honaker and Joey Kong would give the Jackets their first lead of the game. A two RBI double by Ethan Miller would cushion the Jackets lead by a six to three margin.
The rival Falcons refused to go away. A hit batter, two walks, one of a number of questionable calls on the night, and a key error would get the Falcons right back in the game and knot the score at six after seven complete. Winning pitcher AJ Jaworski, who came in at the start of the inning in relief struck out the number nine hitter to finally end the madness.
In the visitor’s half of the eighth a single by leadoff man Brady Stone got things going. A single and stolen base by Conner Manco would put both runners in scoring position. Dylan Helms would deliver the game ending heroics with an RBI single scoring Stone. Jaworski got credit for his second win on the year.
The Junior Jackets wrap up the 2017 season with a twin bill against the rival Falcons this Thursday night at home with game one scheduled for a 5:30 start.
